Research on corrosion resistance of basalt fiber concrete to help improve concrete durability

2025-02-27

Research on the corrosion resistance of Basalt Fiber concrete shows that the mixing of appropriate amount ofbasalt fibers can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of concrete, which provides a new idea to solve the problem of durability deterioration caused by concrete corrosion.
Concrete corrosion is one of the important causes of its durability degradation, which brings huge economic losses every year. In order to reduce the economic losses caused by concrete corrosion, it is of great significance to study the corrosion resistance of basalt fiberconcrete. At present, the relevant research is mainly through the Concrete Specimen immersed in different corrosion solutions to analyze the changes in its compressive strength, flexural strength and other properties.

Research Findings:

  • Compressive strength and flexural strength: the compressive strength and flexural strength of basalt fiber concrete decreases with the increase of corrosive solution concentration and corrosion time, but the mixing of appropriate amount of basalt fibers can significantly improve its compressive strength and flexural strength in corrosive environment. However, excessive incorporation of basalt fibers will lead to a reduction in strength.
  • Anti-cracking property: After immersed in sodium sulfate solution for 90 days, the anti-cracking property of basalt fiber concrete was significantly improved, of which the best effect was achieved when the volume admixture of basalt fiber was 0.1%.
  • Crack inhibition: after immersed in sodium chloride solution for 90 days, 180 days and 270 days, basalt fiber can effectively inhibit the development of early cracks in concrete, with the best anti-cracking performance when the volume dosage is 0.1%.
  • Deformation capacity and ultimate bearing capacity: the compressive test of specimens soaked in corrosive solution showed that the addition of basalt fibers can improve the deformation capacity and ultimate bearing capacity of concrete, and the effect is optimal when the volume dosage is 0.1%.

Although existing studies have confirmed the positive effect of basalt fibers on the corrosion resistance of concrete, most of the current studies focus on a single corrosive condition (e.g., sulfate or chloride corrosion), and there are fewer studies on mixed solutions of multiple corrosive substances. In addition, the existing research is mainly concerned about the effect of fiber admixture on mechanical properties, the future need to further develop the harmful ion erosion and penetration capacity and other aspects of the study.
Experts said that the research of basalt fiber concrete provides important technical support to improve the durability of concrete, and is expected to be widely used in marine engineering, chemical facilities and other corrosive environments in the future.
